Behind the Scenes of “Impact Day”: Designing Awareness at Dr. Reddy’s

Impact Day wasn’t just another event at Dr. Reddy’s — it was a backstage pass to what really goes on behind the lab coat.

Not Everyone Sees the Whole Picture

When I joined the team behind Impact Day at Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, I quickly realized something many large organizations experience employees often only see the parts of the company they directly interact with.

In a pharma company, this is even more pronounced. A scientist may not know what the field force does. Someone in marketing may never have stepped into a manufacturing plant. And very few employees had truly explored the personal journey of our founder.

That disconnect isn’t just about knowledge it affects how people relate to their work. We wanted to change that.

Building Bridges Through Experience

That’s where Impact Day came in.

It was an existing initiative, carefully conceptualized to help employees engage with the five key pillars of Dr. Reddy’s:

  • Patient – the heart of everything we do

  • Science – our core strength

  • Plant – where medicines are brought to life

  • Field Force – those representing us on the ground

  • Memorial – the inspiring journey of our founder

As part of the team curating these monthly experiences, my goal was to make each touchpoint interactive, immersive, and emotionally resonant—not just another presentation.

A New Theme Every Month

Each month, we explored one of the five pillars through multiple formats. Our approach was diverse because we knew that true understanding doesn’t happen through a single lens.

  • Plant Walkthroughs: We brought employees into the manufacturing space, showing them how precision, quality, and safety come together to create trusted medicines.

  • Design Thinking Workshops: These sessions encouraged teams to ideate with empathy, often placing themselves in the shoes of patients or field representatives.

  • Expert Speaker Sessions: From scientists to healthcare professionals, we invited voices that could provide new perspectives and contextualize the impact of our work.

  • Founder Memorial Walk: We created guided experiences through the memorial that narrated not just history—but values, resilience, and purpose.

Every month felt like stitching together a new part of the larger story.

What We Saw and Learned

The outcomes were more than we expected. Employees across functions began having conversations they’d never had before. Curiosity was sparked. New respect emerged for parts of the organization previously seen as distant or unfamiliar.

What I found most rewarding was how these experiences shifted mindsets. People started seeing their own roles in a broader context and felt more aligned with our mission.

Designing for Connection

For me, being part of the Impact Day team was a meaningful design challenge. It pushed me to think beyond visuals or presentations and focus on how people feel, reflect, and engage.

This was experience design with purpose.
It was about turning abstract themes into shared stories.
And most importantly, it was about helping people rediscover why they chose to work here in the first place.
